About Photograph

Spiritualists would claim that the human image on the mirrored surface was akin to looking into one's soul. The spiritualists also believed that it would open their souls and let demons in.

Cassava Bread being cooked in the traditional oven. this place sold them in many different flavors, including cinnamon-raisin (yummy) and fish (no thanks). the bread's only good for 2 days, so it can be difficult to find. but i'm willing to go the distance... Vietcong diet

Ground cassava leaf
here it is, cassava leaf, not much more tender than gum leaves i guess, is put through a hand-operated meat grinder at the market and then you boil it with dried fish, chicken and shrimps. my version wasn't very good, so i squeezed the liquid out of it and made a kind of pesto for pasta salad. it raised a few eyebrows among the liberians at our hash barbecue.
